DCLM DAILY MANNA 7th April 2022 DEVOTIONAL

MESSAGE:

The Duke of Wellington and Napoleon Bonaparte were born in the same year, 1769. Each was born on an island and became fatherless in early boyhood; each had four brothers and three sisters, and each attended military school in France and at the same time. Both became lieutenant colonels within a day of each other; both excelled in mathematics and were great soldiers; both commanded great armies. And both are remembered for what happened at Waterloo, where one became a victor and the other a loser.

In the passage before us, the tribe of Judah moved into her possession, dispossessing their arch-enemies, the Philistines, in the process. Their border stretched to the river of Egypt, another enemy nation that had enslaved Israel for over four hundred years. The two Philistine cities of Ashdod and Gaza together with their towns and villages were captured and possessed by Judah, along with a host of other cities.

This narrative provides the template for hope and assurance that as the Lord has promised, the Church will continue to overcome and dominate her enemies. The gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

No matter the assaults of the enemies against your life, step out today in faith and assurance that the host of heaven will give you a resounding victory. Remember the promise that “whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world” (1 John 5:4). Believers should claim God’s promise of victory. As we go in this assurance all through the year, we will be more than conquerors in Christ Jesus.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: We are more than conquerors.

THE BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: PSALM 39-43

MEDITATION:

THE UNCHANGING PROMISE OF GOD FOR YOU

1. THE PROMISE OF THE FATHER

a. God promised the faithful Abraham that ” *his seed* will possess the gate of his enemies”, Genesis 22:1.

b. This same promise was transfered and confirmed to Isaac about the seed of Isaac, Genesis 24:60.

Note The “gate” in OT signifies the position of authority, Genesis 19:1, Deuteronomy 25:7.

c. “Possessing the gates of your enemy” therefore the victim becomes the victor, the conquered becomes the conqueror and the oppressed becomes the master.

How did God fulfil it for Abraham’ seed as promised?

2. THE POWER OF FULFILMENT
The text gave a catalogue of powerful, dreadful and often threatening enemies of Israel that were conquered and their land possessed by Judah. None could withstand Judah. A promise came true.

How does this apply to you and me?

3. THE PATH OF FAITH

a. “If you belong to Christ, you are Abraham’s seed”, Galatians 3:29. So you are covered. You are destined to possess the gate of your enemies no matter how strong they may be.

b. Can you start thinking of your threatening enemies? Besetting sin, witches, curses, bad habits, evil personalities, household enemies, etc.?

God said you will possess the gate of your enemies.

Gate (singular) means all of them together as a single entity

c. However, you must courageously, by the power and guidance of the Holy Spirit, take the battle to the enemy’s territory “Forever O Lord, Thy word is settled in heaven”.
Never be discouraged, never give up, never be intimidated, never faint, victory is yours and mine.

Check I John 4:4, 5:4,5 for other victory guarantors for you.

Prayer points:

1. Spend time to give praises to God because you are a seed of Abraham and possessor of the gates of your enemies

2. Ask for the power of the Holy Spirit to always confront your enemies with faith and boldness in order to possess your possessions

3. “Pray against all the plans of your adversaries, visible or invisible, on the land or under the sea, in your house or in any other place, and take authority over them and in the mighty name of Jesus

4. Pray that God will release His power in a wonderful way during the forthcoming retreat for victory in the lives of all the participants

HYMN:

MY PORTION FOREVER

1. All, all to Jesus, I consecrate anew,
He is my portion forever;
Only His glory, henchforth [sic] will I pursue,
He is my portion forever.

Refrain
Take, take the world with all its gilded toys,
Take, take the world I covet not its joys.
Mine is a wealth no moth nor rust destroys;
Jesus my portion forever.

2. All, all to Jesus, my trusting heart can say,
He is my portion forever;
Led by His mercy I’m walking ev’ry day,
He is my portion forever. *Refrain*

3. Though He may try me this blessed truth I know,
He is my portion forever;
He will not leave me, His promise tells me so,
He is my portion forever. *Refrain*

4. All, all to Jesus, I cheerfully resign,
He is my portion forever;
I have the witness that He, my Lord, is mine,
He is my portion forever.

Refrain
