DCLM DAILY MANNA 8th April 2022 DEVOTIONAL

MESSAGE:

Persistence paid off for American astronomer Clyde Tombaugh, who discovered the planet Pluto. After astronomers calculated a probable orbit for this “suspected” heavenly body, Tombaugh took up the search in March 1929. Time magazine recorded the investigation. He examined scores of telescopic photographs each showing tens of thousands of star images in pairs under the dual microscope. It often took three days to scan a single pair. It was “exhausting, eye-cracking work”, according to him. And it went on for months. Star by star, he examined 20 million images. Then, on February 18, 1930, as he was blinking at a pair of photographs in the constellation Gemini, he suddenly came upon the image of Pluto. His discovery was a result of resilience.

The tribe of Judah conquered every city and people in sight in her bid to claim her assigned territory in the Promised Land. Cities and towns with natural defences in the wilderness, hills and valleys were displaced. But the Jebusites put up a resistance to this formidable army of Judah. Therefore, they lived in Israel’s most famous city of Jerusalem alongside the people of Judah.

Sometimes, life can be difficult and challenging. People may attempt to tear and wear us down with the voices of discouragement. But those who believe in God shall be strong and do exploits.

What people say about you matters little; how you react is what matters. It is not falling down that is the problem, but when we fail to recover and rise up to drive our dreams to fulfilment. It takes resilience to live, succeed and become significant in faith in the midst of challenges.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Endurance is a formidable armour.

MEDITATION:

You must fight for your glorious destiny

1. The battle for the soul of Jerusalem

Why did Judah found Jerusalem a hard nut to crack compared to all other cities?, v63. The answer is instructive and spiritual.

a. Jerusalem was inhabited by the Jebusites for over 250 years before Israel got there.

b. It is one of the cities that was “flowing with milk and honey” Exodus 3:6-8.

c. Jesus called it the “city of the great King” of kings, Matthew 5:35.

d. It was called, by design, a city of righteousness and a city of peace, Hebrews 7:2. No other city in the world ever had this attributes.

e. It is the same city and the only city where the temple inhabiting the ark of the covenant was built.

e. Jesus was condemned in that city and crucified at its outskirt.

f. That is where the future battle of the Armageddon will be triggered by the Antichrist after he will forcefully enter the Holy of holies and call himself God, Daniel 9:26,27, 2 Thessanonians 2:3,4. In fact, all nations will be united together to destroy Jerusalem, Zechariah 12:9,10.

g. The three Abrahamic religions, Christianity, Islam and Judaism, all passionately lay claim to Jerusalem.

h. It is in that city Messiah will land at the second advent, Acts 1:11.

i. It is the city that will become the religious capital of the world during the millennial reign of Christ.

j. It is a prototype of the eternal abode of the saints called the heavenly or Jerusalem, Revelation 21:2.

It is not surprising then that such a place of eternal consequences was specially fortified by the enemies of God to prevent the purpose of God for Jerusalem.

The greater the glory the greater the battle. The person who carry a glorious destiny has the greater battle to fight. The greater the purpose of God for a city, the more the attacks and the greater the battle that must bring the destiny to reality. You must fight for your destiny.

2. The bane of surrendering to darkness

Was Judah excusable for not being able to totally get rid of the Jebusites?

a. God commanded them to totally destroy the Jebusites. If it is not possible, God would have not commanded them, Deuteronomy 7:1-2.

b. It was mere deception and carelessness to think the Jebusites, friendly foe, may not be harmless after all. Remember, Israel lost Jerusalm eventually for decades. If you don’t fight and conquer the enemies of your destiny, the enemies will eventually conquer your destiny and enslave you

c. David eventually conquered Jerusalem and carved out his headquarters called the Zion and later became the greatest king in Israel, 2 Samuel 5:6,7. Of David could, they could have done the same by the power of God.

No child of God has any excuse for not winning their battles to their glorious destiny no matter how tough the adversaries may prove.

2. The battle for your satisfactory destiny

a. You have a glorious destiny designed for you by God, Jeremiah 29:11.

b. If it is glorious, there will be resistance and it is not going to be on a platter of gold

c. Even though victory is promised and assured, you must work hard, pray hard and follow hard the word of God in order to reach your zenith
